Impact Of Hair Loss On Women
Women do suffer from hair loss, which may surprise some people, but not in the same way that men do. Having said that, severe hair loss can be even more devastating to women than it is to men. Hair loss of any proportion, may be a serious blow to a woman’s self esteem, due in large parts because of cultural norms, society’s concept of femininity, and the belief or expectation that women should have glossy, luxurious, well-kept hair. This is partly due to the magazines that are all around women and tell them that this is what they should aspire to or be like.
As much as half of the female population will suffer at some time in their lives from hair loss. However, women’s hair loss tends to differ from men’s hair loss in both the cause of it and the way in which the hair is affected. Women’s hair loss is more generally widespread, with thinning occurring all over the scalp rather than loss in particular areas. It is a very rare sight to see a woman whose hair loss leaves them bald on top with a healthy fringe around the edges like the typical look of male pattern baldness. For women, thinning hair is often the result of medical conditions, which, when treated, could lead to the restoration of their hair.
