The interesting thing to note about the examples shown on the HormonaZone site is the successful regrowth of frontal hair, something that most hair loss treatments fail to address. These solutions may therefore prove especially attractive to those of you experiencing a receding hairline.
A useful way to examine the value of Arcon Tisane as a hair loss treatment is to reproduce two articles published in the British media.
Daily Mail, Tuesday, May 11 1999 Good Health Innovations - Can this herb beat baldness?
SCIENTISTS believe they have developed a natural remedy for baldness – a herbal concoction of fenugreek and palmetto. Trials have shown that Arcon Tisane can prevent hair loss and encourage re-growth because the herbs have similar molecular structures to drugs which have been clinically prevent to halt baldness.
The remedy was accidentally discovered by a German scientist who used fenugreek seeds to treat his bronchitis. It not only cleared his chest but promoted hair re-growth. Fenugreek is known to increase the dilation of blood vessels which helps the scalp get more blood and nutrients.
Scientists in Finland have refined the recipe and come up with a capsule, and spray which also contains saw palmetto (a palm extract) to control make hormone-related hair loss, vitamin B12 to stimulate hair growth and vitamin B2 - deficiencies of this have been shown to result in hair loss.
A small trial has just been completed at the Helsinki Trichological Institute. Four men were selected with hair loss around the crown and at the temples. After six months on Arcon Tisane(formerly Arcon Hairfood), two re-grew all the hair on their crowns and on had some re-growth.
Saw palmetto is similar to the prescription drug Finasteride, which is known to block the mail hormone DHT, linked with male-pattern hair loss. ‘This drug is not cheap, which is why doctors are reluctant to prescribe it even thought it’s effective,’ says British trichologist and hair transplant surgeon Dr. Richard Rogers.
Sunday Mirror, Sunday, May 9, 1999 Curry herb is hot new cure for baldness.
A new treatment for baldness using herbal extract has surprised doctors by its effectiveness. The spray and capsule remedy contains extracts of fenugreek, a herb used in salads and curries, and a relative of the tomato called saw palmetto.
Hair specialists at the Helsinki University have carried out extensive trials on Arcon Tisane and have been stunned by the results. The new treatment is about to be sold in the UK and British hair specialist is to try it on patients.
Arcon Tisane was discovered accidentally by a doctor who developed a herbal soup for himself to treat his bronchitis and a chronic chest infection. While taking the herbal concoction for six months, he noticed that he was starting to grow hair on previously bald patches on his head.
"It was quite and amazing discovery," said Dr. Annikki Hagros a scientist at Helsinki University’s Trichological Institute. "I was quite sceptical at first because there are so many so-called cures for hair loss that don’t work."
"But I carried out a trial last year and was astounded at how quickly hair started to grow back on bald patches."
"Some patients’ hair started to come back after only a week, although on most cases it took several months to see any significant improvements"
The most successful patient in the trial was Karl Hautala. A 42-year-old photographer. "I’ve tried a lot of lotions and liquids without any success," he said. "But the end of the trial I was completely won over."
"My hair loss had been halted and the areas that had already gone bald started to grow new hair. It was wonderful."
Dr. Richard Rogers, who runs, the Wellesbourne Hair Restoration Centre in Harley Street, plans to recruit 100 patients for his trial, starting in the next few months.
Arcon Tisane works in the same was as standard pharmaceutical drugs used to treat hair loss. One is minoxidil and the other finsteride. The benefit if the herbal treatment is that it appears to be more potent than the drugs. The treatment only works for patients with male pattern baldness and other types of hair loss.
A detailed summary of the research supporting the efficacy of Arcon Tisane can be found at Arcon Tisane Trials
