Itchy Scalp Causes
Have you ever felt an itch on your scalp, then scratched
it, only to come back with hair strands in your hand? If you have,
you aren’t alone. A lot of people have to deal with itchy scalp
and hair loss, but most don’t know what causes it. This guide will
tell you some of the biggest causes of itchy scalp.
The scalp secretes sebum, which helps to protect and lubricate
the hair, keeping it smooth and silky while feeding the hair’s follicle.
However, too much of a good thing can be harmful. If the scalp makes
too much sebum itchiness, flaking and irritation can result. The
scalp and hair feel greasy, and the more you scratch the worse it
gets.
If this is the case for you, you should shampoo your hair and condition
it after, being sure to rinse your hair completely. This is done
to clean dirt and oil, as well as styling product build-up from
your hair- these things can irritate an itchy scalp.
As far as shampoos are concerned, you should find one that works
for you. Don’t buy the cheapest just because it’s on sale- buy a
more expensive brand, and if necessary, you can buy a sample-sized
bottle to try it out. If your shampoo causes your scalp to itch,
you should switch to a different one to see if it helps.
Don’t get caught in the rain, either. Rainwater has chemicals in
it that get absorbed by the hair, and they can make the scalp even
more irritated, red and itchy. Dry, irritated and itchy scalp has
many causes, but there are only a few effective ways to treat the
problem.
